Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit Installation - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado- Video

Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit Installation - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado

Speaker 1: Today on our 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, we're going to be showing you how to install the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles, part number is RM-156-25.Now this charge line kit is really important on these GM vehicles with the steering wheel lock situation, you have to leave your key on. Even though you turn off the fan, you turn off the air, you turn off the radio, it still drains the battery. This allows us to take power from our red wire that we've got connected to the 12 volt power source on the back of our RV, that goes through a breaker and we've got it connected right here to our positive battery cable. This gives us a trickle charge effect. As we're driving down the road, the battery's constantly getting a little bit of a charge and a little bit of a charge to keep it up and maintained. The breaker is in place to help prevent any kind of overloading. If you're vehicle, maybe you've left the radio on or you've left the fan blowing, it's going to be drawing power from your battery of course. That excess draw will cause this breaker to heat up slightly and disconnect power temporarily until that system cools back down and it'll make contact again, so it's a very safe and very effective way to charge your battery while you're flat towing. The first step in the installation is going to be to get our breaker mounted. more

We're going to go ahead and measure from the bottom of our wheel well down to the ground to get an idea of the current ride height. We're approximately 46-1/2". Then on the front, we're at 47-1/2". Now, we'll go ahead and add approximately 2000 pounds of weight to the rear of our truck. We'll go ahead and measure from the bottom of the wheel well down to the ground again, and we're at about 44-1/2" meaning we lost right at 2" of ride height. Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD, we're going to be installing the universal installation kit for trailer brake controllers with both a 7-way RV and a 4 flat style connector, part number ETBC7. In conjunction with our universal installation kit, we're also going to be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller, part number 90195. On our particular vehicle today that we're working with, it does have a stake bed or an aftermarket style bed installed on the vehicle, so a few things underneath may look just a little bit different. The kit does already come with some yellow butt connectors connected to the blue and black wire as well as the purple wire, but this particular customer has requested that we use some heat shrink style butt connectors wherever we use a butt connector. The butt connectors that we're going to be using are part number DW05745-5. These two wires right here, this black and the blue wire, we're going to go ahead and trim off the butt connector that comes with it. The blue wire is the wire that sends brake signal from the brake controller back. The black wire is your 12-volt hot or the 12-volt accessory wire. This purple wire that already has the connector on it, it is for the reverse light circuit, and on this particular application, we're not going to use that, so we're not even going to cut the butt connector off. more

This one here will allows you to remove the brake controller when you're not using it, but because it is out of plastic it is not quite as durable as our metal one here. Now this particular vehicle here is a work truck so we're going to go ahead and install the metal bracket to give us a little better chances of the brake controller staying connected onto the lower dash where we'll be putting it. Now that we've gone over the parts of the brake controller, here's the wiring harness that we're going to be using. more
